About Us

Mission Statement: To advance the interests and spirit of the game of golf and to encourage a spirit of harmony and cooperation among golf clubs and other related associations. Primary activities include the administration of the USGA Handicap System™, educational programs for members and club employees, the sharing of information and the conduct of championships.

Founded in 1899 and one of the oldest amateur golf associations in the country, the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association is the steward of amateur golf in the region, an association of golf clubs and their individual members brought together for the good of the game. Started by just five Member Clubs, the association now has over 125 clubs and nearly 30,000 golfers.

Our primary missions are championships, handicapping and course rating, and member services. We also administer the WPGA Scholarship Fund to provide tuition assistance to employees of our Member Clubs. Educational programs are offered yearly to our growing membership in a variety of areas and formats.

The affairs and property of the Association are directed by an Executive Committee composed of members from our Member Clubs, and we are supported by many volunteers.

To conduct daily business we employee a full-time staff with offices in Allegheny West on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Any golf club is welcome to become a Member Club of the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association.
